Poppystamps: Happy Dad's Day!

Thursday, June 22, 2017

Morning, y'all!  I'm up on the Poppystamps blog today, sharing the card I stretched my stash to make my dad for Father's Day.
I started this card by adding green and blue, watercolor puddles to a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of watercolor paper.  I then splattered it with those same shades of watercolor, as well as teal watercolor, before smearing Tumbled Glass Distress Ink through the Memory Box Winter Snowflakes stencil and splattering once again, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  The Stitched Tunnel Tag was then die-cut, from the prepped piece, just left of vertical center and set aside for later before matting that same original, watercolor piece with white cardstock and anchoring it, with white-threaded, straight, machine stitches, to the Brocade Blue, cardstock, card face.  I then used the "happy valentine's day" stamp, from our Grateful Heart stamp set, to make the "happy DAD's day" sentiment by replacing the "valentine" with die-cut, from teal cardstock, using our Happy Birthday Bold die, letters to spell "DAD".
The Stitched Tunnel Tag, that had been set aside previously, was then laced with Baker's Twine...
backed with a bit of cheesecloth for texture; and popped up, with foam tape, in the same, negative space from which it was initially die-cut.
It was also topped with a stamped in Jet Black ink, watercolored, and hand-cut Be Mine Penguin, dressed in a top hat and tie and popped up with more foam tape, in addition to a stamped, in Cotton White StazOn ink, on clear cardstock and die-cut Grateful Heart.  The stamped Grateful Heart was backed with another die-cut, clear, cardstock Grateful Heart, before they were stitched together; but before finishing off the last few white-threaded, straight, machine stitches, I stuffed the formed, heart pocket with Raspberry, Seaspray, Crystal, and silver star sequins, as well as silver seed beads, to complete the look.
I'm signing off a little early for the weekend, friends; but thanks, as always, for visiting me!  Hope your weekends are blessed!  Hugs!

Pretty Little Studio: We Are Family

Wednesday, June 21, 2017

Hey, y'all!  I'm up again on the Pretty Little Studio blog this morning, sharing my first page showing off goodies from our newest collection, Beautiful Day.  To bring it to life, I used a photo of a family who holds a very special place in the hearts of the members of my own.  Enjoy!
I started this page by Cameo-cutting a Basic Heart from a piece of cardstock and using it as a stencil to create the stamped, in Jet Black ink, center text.  I added a few puddles of aqua and yellow watercolor over that, before splattering everything with those same shades of watercolor, as well as orange watercolor.  Once everything was dry, I applied white modeling paste, through a punchinella stencil, behind where my photo would lie before, once again, splattering everything, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.  I then chose a handful of prints from the Beautiful Day Collection's 6" x 8" Paper Pack, as well as a Currently Card and Sprinkles Bookmark, and secured them, some with orange-threaded, straight, machine stitching, behind my photo, which was matted with white cardstock and backed with a snippet of cheesecloth for texture.  Beginning to the photo's left, I tucked a Salt Lake Clear Shipping Tag, laced with white string, tied in a bow, under its edge and dressed the top left corner with a "TOGETHER IS THE BEST PLACE TO BE" Happy Ticket Die Cut, popped up with foam tape.
Moving clockwise, the photo was topped with a "TODAY" Walk in the Park Die Cut, popped up with more foam tape and sandwiched between a Live Happy Cut-Apart Mini Word and simple button, laced with white thread.  An Orange Butterfly Vintage Mini Die Cut rests on it and a Butterfly Bush Sticker, which is mimicked in the opposite diagonal corner, along with a couple of stamped, in Jet Black ink, phrases, complete the cluster.  I just love how those Marigold butterflies compliment this collection perfectly!
A Laura Tab, housing a hand-written 2016, was stapled to the top right corner of the photo and embellished with a single Colorful Blooms Die Cut.
More Colorful Blooms Die Cuts, some of which were layered with foam tape, ground the bottom right corner and highlight a "BE HAPPY" Happy Ticket Die Cut.
An "our journey" Paradise Phrase Strip, anchored by an "it's the little things" Everyday Words Flair Button, as well as a couple of Hello Word Stickers, ground the entire design...
and a "we are FAMILY" title, formed from a stamped, in Jet Black ink, "we are" phrase and Park Bench Alphas to spell the word "FAMILY", completes the look.
Further inspiration for this page came from Stuck?! Sketches' June 15th Challenge.
Thanks, as always, from humbling me with a visit!  Have a wonderful Wednesday, friends!

Husbands Love Your Wife

Tuesday, June 20, 2017

Morning, friends!  I don't usually do this; but I wanted to share my pastor's Sunday sermon, simply because it is especially good.  Honestly, it is THE BEST Father's Day sermon I've ever heard.  Pass this on to your husbands/wives and married/engaged friends and family members.  I'm even thankful that my teenage son was able to hear this, from someone other than his mom and dad, long before he's even found his spouse.  It doesn't get more real than this!  Jump ahead to the 33:30 minute mark to get right to the sermon itself.
I'll be back with my usual creativity bright and early tomorrow morning.  Thanks for popping in!  God bless!

The Studio Not to Be Squared Challenge

Sunday, June 18, 2017

Morning, friends!  Just popping in with our latest challenge from The Studio to create a layout without using squares or rectangles.  Being as it's Father's Day here in the states (Happy Father's Day, dads!), I chose to scrap a photo of my hubby with our beautiful kiddos from last Father's Day and played with stamped, die-cut, stitched, and sequin circles, not to mention lots of Pinkfresh goodies from my May Citrus Twist kit.
I started this page by adding yellow, orange, and aqua watercolor splatters to my scripted grid, base page.  I then stamped a trio of messy circles strategically throughout the design and smeared Coastal Cabana ink, through a chevron stencil, behind where my photo would lie, before outlining each chevron with black ink and splattering everything, once again, but this time with Pure Black and Titanium White acrylic paints.
A number of circles were then die-cut from clear cardstock and secured to the page with white-threaded hand-stitching; but before making those final stitches, I stuffed each one with lots of happy, color-coordinating sequins.  I also used the ends of thread from one of the circles to tie a little bow just to crank up that cuteness factor.
Finally, the page was ready for my photo, which was cut in the shape of a circle; matted with white cardstock; backed with cheesecloth for a bit of additional texture; and popped up with foam tape.  A trio of  die-cut arrows, popped up with more foam tape, draw the eye in to the photo itself.
My "FATHER'S DAY" title was then formed from copper, puffy, alphabet stickers arched around the right side of the photo.
A June 19, 2016, date and bit of journaling complete the look.  The journaling reads, Celebrating having a great dad, not to mention him being home from Mexico, with church, swimming, grilling, & gifts ("Best Daddy Ever" Jelly Bellies, a new baseball cap, & lots of handmade treasures).  We love you, Daddy!
Further inspiration for this page came from Let's Get Sketchy's June 15th Sketch Challenge...
and Colorful Creations' Something Old, Something New Challenge.  Nearly everything on my page is new; but that chevron stencil, not to mention most of the mixed media deliciousness, including the cheesecloth and stamp set, is very, very old.
You have until Sunday, July 2, 2017, to link up your takes, on our Sketch Challenge and/or this Not to Be Squared Challenge, in the right-hand column of The Studio blog.  Be sure to stop by the challenge link above to see how the rest of the team was inspired.  Thanks so much for peeking in!  Have a blessed week, y'all!

May Recognition

Saturday, June 17, 2017

Welcome to the weekend, y'all!  Ezekiel and my hubby are getting home from their annual, Mexico, mission trip today; and I can't wait!  Despite my best efforts, it has been a super long week with my littles.  I may have to take our big kiddo and let my hubby stay home with our youngest critters next year ;).  Anyhow, I just wanted to share a few projects that received recognition last month, beginning with this cutie patootie page of my daughter with her bunny.  It was named a Sunday Sketch Winner at Citrus Twist.
This page was a 3-to-Inspire Winner at Citrus Twist...
and this beauty was given the honor of Top Cup at Sunday Stamps.
Thank you ever so much to all those who had a hand in such.  I'm extremely honored and blessed beyond measure!  And thank you, too, to each and every one of you reading.  I know that I say it all the time, but it truly wouldn't be the same around here without YOU!  I'll be back tomorrow with my take on a new challenge from The Studio.  Until then, thanks, as always, for humbling me with a visit!  Now, get out there and make your weekends creative ones!  XOXO
